Case Western Reserve University's Autonomous Robotic Lawnmower

CWRU Cutter, pronounced “crew cutter,” is an autonomous guided vehicle designed, built, and tested at Case Western Reserve University. The CWRU Cutters, an interdisciplinary team of engineers, have led CWRU Cutter to competition for the past two years. In 2008, CWRU Cutter placed 3rd amongst competitors at the Institute of Navigation’s 5th Annual Autonomous Lawnmowing Competition. In 2009, CWRU Cutter improved it’s rank to achieve a 1st place award. CWRU Cutter will be attending the 7th annual autonomous lawnmower competition in June, 2010. More information on the competition can be found at the Institute of Navigation’s competition website.

Tesla Orchestra

Students, faculty, staff, and community members have been working together in order to build a 2-megavolt Tesla coil. A series of engineering design challenges are faced when working with such high potentials. The Tesla coil, after building and testing, will be capable of playing sequenced musical compositions. This summer, Team Tesla Tech and the Tesla Orchestra will be traveling to Europe in order to perform at the birthplace of Nikola Tesla – the country of Croatia. Pictures, video, and more can be found at the Tesla Orchestra Headquarter’s website.
